Understanding Happiness — Digital Workbook
Why we search for happiness — and why it never seems to last.
We all want to be happy. We want to be free from suffering and we want to enjoy life. So we spend our lives trying to find and secure happiness. The trouble is that for most of us, as the years go by, and despite our efforts, we start to feel that happiness becomes more and more elusive.
This self-paced workbook explores why. Across five sessions, you'll discover:
why even with the best intentions, the happiness you seek remains elusive
why your current efforts aren't lasting
the four pathways people tend to follow to overcome dissatisfaction
how only one of those paths has the capacity for meaningful change
The intention is simple: to help you see more clearly, and from that clarity, have the capacity to choose differently.

Two Types of Happiness — exploring acquired vs innate happiness
Being Human — why you experience life the way you do
The Ego's Search for Happiness — how you currently pursue happiness, or manage the lack of it
The Fragile Nature of Acquired Happiness — why external happiness doesn't hold and what takes it away
The Crossroad — the four pathways people follow when faced with unhappiness and the one that has the capacity for meaningful change
Most people who find themselves reading this will identify with one of the following situations. It feels like…
You’ve hit rock bottom —there is quite a bit of unhappiness or dissatisfaction with life.
You’ve reached the top of the cliff — you have everything you thought you wanted, but you often find yourself still unsatisfied by life, looking for the next thing.
You’re in a transition time of life — you're trying to feel like yourself again, or trying to recreate a happier time of life.
Regardless of which path brought you here, there are some common threads:
Dissatisfaction with life.
Current attempts to find satisfaction are not working or not sustaining.
It feels like: confusion, frustration, anger, burnout, unhappiness, stress, and or longing for more.
You are looking for clarity about what is going on and how to navigate it.
You are seeking a greater sense of fulfilment, joy, peace, and awe for life.
So, this work is for anyone who doesn't fit the categories in the previous section, and who can see themselves in the experiences I've just described.
There are times and situations where this work may not be the right fit, and being honest with yourself about the kind of support you need matters. This work is not designed to address:
Immediate threats to your safety or survival
Serious illness or physical danger
Acute grief from losing someone close to you
Situations of abuse, trauma, or harm
Extreme financial hardship where basic needs aren't being met
Crisis situations that require urgent external support
If you're in any of these places right now, please prioritise getting the right professional support first—a psychologist, doctor, crisis line, or emergency services, depending on what you need.
This work is for people with sound mental health who are confident that a review of past events will not adversely impact their emotional or mental health should they participate. We request that you do not participate in Understanding Happiness if you or your treating practitioners have any past or existing concerns about your mental health.
This work can absolutely sit alongside professional support, but it isn't a replacement for it.
Your wellbeing is your responsibility, but you do not have to carry it alone. If your situation is critical, in Australia you can contact emergency services on 000, reach Lifeline any time on 13 11 14, or the Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467. If you're outside Australia, your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country can help.
My work sits on the threshold of self-awareness, mindfulness, neuroscience and behavioural science, and spirituality. It brings together the intelligence of science and the wisdom of spiritual traditions. It was born from a deep longing to recreate a happier time of life, but what I found was something far more profound — and 'going back' was not the answer.
This program is educational and developmental. It is not clinical treatment. I'm an awareness and mindfulness mentor, not a psychologist or medical professional. This work helps you recognise patterns and develop a different relationship with your experience.
If at any point during this work something surfaces that feels bigger than the program is designed to hold — if you find yourself in a place of crisis, overwhelming emotion, or feeling unsafe — please reach out to a qualified professional. There is no shame in that. There is strength in asking for help.
Your workbook is available to download straight after purchase. You will be able to download it from the thank you page and confirmation email. By default, download links for digital products are active for 30 days before they expire. To retain access to the program after the 30 days, please make sure you download the file.
For the best experience, print your workbook. Having it on paper makes it easier to read, write your reflections and work through each activity at your own pace.
